Very Rough Night!!!!

Well Keegan gave me a tough time last night and wouldn't go to bed until 12am after feeding him three time in 4 hours! He was hungry! He kept screaming each time we put him down and when he would calm down, it'd be only for a few minutes. I ran up and down the stairs (Josh was xmas shopping) so many times, I got my daily workout in! Anywho, I was exhausted to say the least and when he did go down, he only slept for 4 1/2 hours and was up again to eat. Then he went down for another 3 hours and was only up for one hour after that until he got reallly cranky and needed a nap (usually he is good to for 2 hours from wakeup time). He is napping well today b/c he didn't get sleep well last night...thankfully b/c we had a lot of cleaning to do.

Those days of sleeping through have not come back in a couple weeks and he is getting up twice at night now since this week. I have no clue what is up with my poor little guy but it's tough not getting sleep. I really didn't think I'd be sleep deprived for 17 weeks and I really don't see it improving anytime soon. I know he is a very touchy baby and had a lot of gas last night...and burps too. That's prob why he was up so often last night. We are giving him gas drops which I hope will help.

Other than that, he is a joy to be around! I just love him so much! He is very active, loves to kick, babble and try to hold the toys that dangle from his playmat. He likes to suck on things and chew too...maybe teeth? I hope not! He is rolling from back to tummy as of almost two weeks ago (did it on our bed when we were playing with him) and also rolled onto his tummy in his crib, swaddled! He did not like that! Keegan's so much fun at 4 months and I know from Mia's experience that it only gets better!

Broke his previous sleep record!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so we had a repeat of two nights ago but this time he slept 10 hoursssssssssss! He went down at 8:50 and slept until 6:45 exactly. He woke up hungry and didn't spit up what he got from me this time which was a lot (I was soooooooo engorged). I woke up at 5 thinking he was going to get up any minute but nope! I definitely know now that he can sleep well. It's weird that it just happened right when he turned 15 weeks old. I'm happy though!

Also, his naps are getting better and longer especially the evening one. I had to wake him the past couple of days when he slept an hour and 15 mins. He didn't like me waking him last night at 7:45. I tried keeping him awake for a bit but he was due for a feed at 8pm and was still tired. I fed him and he went right to sleep when I put him in the crib for the night and woke up this morning at 6:45! I can't complain! It took a lot to get him to this point but it was worth it.

I'll keep you posted and let you know how the next few nights go!! :)

FINALLY SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT!

Keegan is now 15 weeks old and had a break through on Friday Dec. 7th! Keegan went down right around 9ish, cried a bit after but fell asleep untilllllllllllllll 6ammmmmm (only b/c of a veryyyy small poop)!! WOW! That's the longest he has ever slept! I slept too thankfully and was quite engorged as you can imagine. Keegn got a good feed to say the least.

I'll let you know how it goes tonight. I'm not holding my breath for a repeat of last night, but you never know!

Keegan's Schedule

Back to the swaddling, my husband feels that since Keegan is not getting out of his swaddle why take him out of it if he's fine in it. I do agree with that but just wanted to bit the bullet before we really have to. We are going to hold off on the deswaddling for now. And he did agree to help me when it does come time to unwrap Keegan.

I am being consistent with everything else. Here is our schedule (approximate times, may vary within 30 mins):

8am (lately) we get up
Breastfeed for about 40 mins (he's a sucker!)

10:15ish up in his room, swaddle, turn on mobile and water sound,
tell him "night night" and place him in his crib. He
usually cries for a few minutes and as soon as I go to
check on him, he is out like a light!

11-11:15 He usually awakes, or sooner. His naps generally last
about 30-45 mins, sometimes 60 mins. I will try to put him
back down when he gets up after 30 mins. Sometimes he will
sleep another 10 and I will try again (patting, pupd).

11:30 Feed (3 1/2 hours), keep awake and play

1:45 ish nap, same as above

2:15-2:45 he'll get up, I'll try to pupd to see if I can extend nap,
which sometimes works and sometimes does not

3pm breastfeed for 40 mins, keep awake and play

5:15 nap, same as above

5:45-6:15 up, I'll do the same as above

6:30 breastfeed, keep awake

8 bath, swaddle, turn on womb sound, breastfeed

8:45-9 crib, awake but falls right asleep

Now he is where he isn't consistent:

2:30-3 up, usually big pee diaper, and wants to be fed, breastfeed

3-3:30 crib

Sleeps about another 3 1/2-4 1/2 hours before getting up again.

So our start time each day may vary from 7-8am but lately it's been right around 8am.

Last night, Keegan did alright:

10:30pm swaddled, fell right asleep as soon as I put him down
awake

3:50am up, I patted him and he drifted off for another 10
minutes. I know he woke up b/c he was passing gas and
got all upset. He wasn't even hungry until he started
crying and saw me. I tried patting again but the gas got
to him I think. I then changed and fed him.

4:35 crib (didn't burp)

8am woke up right at 8am and we started our day

So as you can see, I can being consistent with our nap and night time rituals. I love that I can just place him in his crib and he is asleep within in minutes! And he does like to be swaddled and proved it to me last night when we went back to swaddling and he was out within minutes. I know it's going to get to the point where he is really trying to get out of it and that will definitely be the time where we need to bite the bullet. I know then my hubby will definitely be willing to help me out. Right now, we're going to stick with what's working and hope that Keegan can extend his morning awakenings. :)

Deswaddling, Dec. 6th

I think we are nipping the swaddle in the butt...aka, deswaddling! ? Keegan fell asleep on me when I was taking him up for nap and I decided not to swaddle him. I place him in the crib and he woke up (which were my intentions), stirred a bit and fell asleep for about 15 mins w/ no swaddle! Butttt he has been in his crib now for 30 mins, crying off and on, but not a hard cry. I hear him sucking on his fists from time to time which is what he loves to do. Right now, he is really crying so I may go get him to see if I can calm him down. I think we are actually going to try this out and I knowwwwwwwww it's going to be hard on him...and me (no sleep at night perhaps!), but for how long is the question We also decided not to swaddle b/c he is getting too big for the swaddle we have and I don't want to buy another one. Guess that's reason enough to start the unwrapping! Wish us luck! I'm going to need it!

Well it's not looking good w/ the deswaddling. :( Josh got frustrated and I know Keegan can sense it. I thought he was on board with the deswaddling but he just basically said he's not which I'm a bit upset about. So if he can't help me out, then I'm going to have to go back to swaddling until Keegan is rolling over or getting out of it consistently. I can't do this by myself and really need my hubby's help. It's only been 30 mins and I don't see an end to Keegan's screaming. :( I know I said I was just going to do it, but I may just have to wait. I'll keep you posted.

I went back to swaddling Keegan. Josh was too stressed out w/ all the crying and Keegan was definitely sensing it. Keegan would literally just scream each time we pupd and although I was on board with the deswaddling, I don't think the time is right. Keegan is now asleep after an hour of screaming and picking up and putting down. Now just may not be the time to start deswaddling since we both need to agree to help each other with it. Keegan's just happier deswaddled!

Nighttime Sleep Update

After a few rough nights (yes, he is still not sleeping well!) of getting up around 12am and then again around 3:30-4, Keegan proved to me last night that he may not like what I am eating. I decided to give him formula at his last feed at 8:20, he took 6 oz and went right to sleep practically. We were waiting for him to get up at 12am like he has since Sat night but he didn't! The next thing I know, it's 4:35 am and he is crying!!!!!! WOW! 7 1/2 hours of sleep he got! We were shocked! I really think his sleep patterns are all over the board b/c of what I am eating. I don't think he likes pizza or pasta and some veggies. It's mostly what I eat for dinner that may make him irritable. So I'm going to try formula again tonight to see how he does. Oh and I also tried to deswaddle him (not wrap him up) for his nap 30 mins ago, and he was not having it at all! He just laid there with his arms flailing and screamed! After trying to get him calm down and asleep for 20 mins or so, I went back to swaddling him and he went right to sleep! Goes to show you our little boy is not like his sister Mia who didn't like to be all wrapped up at night. I just think he lovessssssssss being all warm and cozy in his swaddle! My motto is why fix something that is not broken! Eventually he'll grow out of the swaddle, but for now it's what works for us! :)

It's snowing here! Mia got to see snow falling for the first time today! We got a good dusting and it was so pretty coming down! She loved it! :)

Time for some "me" time before both kids get up!

Mia's new treat (nov. 26)

So since Mia has been inconsolable for the past few mornings, all she wants is marshmallows (this morning it was rice crispies and marshmallows!)!!! We had hot choc at my mom's this past weekend and when she saw the marshmallows in it...that was it! She was hooked! So maybe we should call her Marshmallow Mia instead of Miss Mia?! haha!!

Another weird night

For the past two nights he's been getting up at 11:30pm!!!!! He was screaming both times and two nights ago he let out a big burp. Then last night we werent sure why he got up again and we traced it back to pasta and pizza I had both nights. I had pasta fri night though and he was fine so I think he just got up sat night at 11:30 b/c he had to burp. Last night it was def due to the pizza I had...b/c he was the same way the last time I had pizza...very screamish and had to be fed. Sooooooooo he finally went down at 1:15 until 5:38 adn then again at 6-8:30. Anymore when we have pizza, I'm giving him formula!
