Keegan's 1 month old

Hi Everyone,

Keegan turned one month old today and time is flying by to say the least. He is doing well nursing but still needs improvement in the night time sleep department. Keegan definitely doesn't take after his big sis who was sleeping 6 hours at 6 weeks, but I'm still holding out hope! He and I had a rough time last night/early morning and I hope he improves soon b/c I don't know if I can take another sleepless night (hasn't been this bad since the day we brought him home). I just keep telling myself that this too will pass and soon he will be sleeping through the night! :) Keegan's also likes to smile at us although it could be gas related and also loves his swing and bouncer. He doesn't like tummy time though and gets fruatrated after a few minutes.

Nap wise, Keegan's pretty sporadic in how long he wants to sleep. Usually he'll naabout 1-3 hours before getting hungry and sleeps in the swing, bouncer or playard. I havem't used his crib yet for naps (which is upstairs) but will do so in a few weeks.

Keegan had his 1 month old checkup last week and here are his stats:

Weight: 8lbs 14 oz
Length: 21 in
Head: 14 cm

Other than that, he is doing well and so are Josh, Mia and I. We love parenthood and our 2 little munchkins!!

Next family update is in one month...stay tuned!

Love,

Cathy, Josh, Miss Mia and Mr. Keegan

Hard night

Well Mr. Keegan gave mommy a reallllllllly hard time last night and wouldn't go to sleep for 3 hours (from 3:45am-7!!!)! He slept close to 2 hours before getting up at 12:45am when I had to feed him. Then he slept from 1:15-1:45am and woke up screammmming! I had no idea what was wrong and he still seemed hungry. I gave him 1 oz which he gladly took and then he let out a big grunt and pooped through his sleeper! Poor guy was trying to poop, but couldn't. I even tried Vaseline but that didn't work. :( He's been like this all last week, trying to push his poop out but had a hard time doing so which caused him to be all cranky. It mostly affects him in the early morning hours (go figure!) like it did today. So when he got up again at 1:45, I changed him and rocked him and he passed out. He then slept for 1 hour and got up at 3:45 and would not, absolutely would not, go to sleep until 7 am! Poor thing just couldn't get his poop out and it just stopped him from drifting off to sleep. I was soooooooooo exhausted, I can't imagine how tired he must have been. And each time I tried to get in bed, he'd start screaming and fussing....I ended up "trying" to sleep on the glider in his room instead, but that didn't work out either. The thing is is that his sleep patterns are so sporadic and I reallllllllly thought it was getting better not worse. Mia, at 1 month, was a good sleeper and slept 4 hours at 3 weeks and then 5-6 hours at 5 1/2-6 weeks old! I guess every baby is different.

My question, for those of you who have boys, is were your boys like this or were they good sleepers? Also, when did they start sleeping well? Keegan doesn't nap too well either unless he is on us or in his bouncer (that is sometime short-lived too). I haven't tried putting him down for naps in his crib yet and prob will in a few weeks. I just want him to get better at napping in his play yard before I venture up and down the stairs to "try" to get him to nap.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! I don't think I can take another one of these nights again... I AM BEAT! :(

Carroll Update

Hi Everyone,

Well just an update on our lit'l family since it's been 2 weeks since Keegan was born...already!! All has been going well for us thankfully and Mr. Keegan is a really good baby so far. :) He sleeps a lot during the day but of course is up every 2-3 hours in the morning. I'm getting used to being sleep deprived though so it's not too bad. We had a rough first two nights home but after that it got a bit easier...just a bit. He's not been nursing as well as he did in the beginning as of last Friday, but my doc said he's gaining weight so that's good news. Keegan just lovessss to fall asleep on me while nursing but usually once I change him, he's up a bit and able to take the other side. He had his 2 week checkup yesterday (thurs) and here are his stats:

Weight= 7 lbs 8 oz (birth weight)
Length= 20 1/4 in (I laughed when the nurse told us this b/c he was 20 1/2 in at birth...guess the hospital's measurements aren't that accurate)
Head=

Anywho, he's a great baby and we just love him so much! His big sister Mia also loves having him around too. She likes to help me change his diaper and get wipes for me. She also likes to help me burp him which is too cute. :) I see no signs of jealously with her thank god!

As for me, I'm healing up well although still a bit sore. I'm off of the pain meds as of Monday and getting around a lot easier as of last Friday. I still can't pick Mia up for another 4-5 weeks (docs orders) and can't drive until next Friday (3 week mark). Josh has been great through all this and does all the "Mia lifting" for me. :) He puts her in her highchair, gives her baths and puts her in her crib...what a nice hubby I have!! He has no choice though! haha!!! My docs appt is in 4 weeks when I should be given the OK for everything from holding Mia to going to the gym (which I can't wait to do! I'm out of shape! haha!). Other than that, I'm a bit sleep deprived but getting used to it. My mom-in-law is there this week so I'm able to go back to sleep at 8ish when Keegan goes back down...it's nice! I better take advantage of it b/c next week is when reality sets in....just me, Mia and Keegan (and Daddy upstairs working if I need him). I'm sure I'll be fine though it's going to be hard at first. In time though, I'll be a pro at this 2 kid thing. :)

Update on Miss Mia....

We had a rough week last week with Mia due to her getting 4 teeth in and having a hand, foot and mouth virus called Cox Sackie. We had to keep her away from Keegan until it went away which was just this past Monday. She just wasn't having it last week and was cranky as ever! I've never seen her the way she was and I just wished I could go through the pain for her. She would literally wake up screaming, crying, fussing, very antsy, you name it, she did it! I thought the neighbors were going to call the cops on us b/c she was so loud. She'd calm down after a couple hours but would go back to being cranky off and on during the days. Luckily she slept very well during her naps and at night...phew!! She is all better now and is active as ever!! Her vocabulary as blossomed and it's just unbelievable to hear her speak as well as she does. :) Mia loves to play with her baby dolls and push them around in her stroller. She also loveessss to play with her Dora kitchen, table and chairs...too cute!! She is def one big Dora fan! Let's just hope they don't recall any of the ones she has! Other than that, being a 2 year old so far as treated Mia well (except for last week...I don't ever want to go through that again!! It was very very hard!). I really do love this age and I'm sure will grow to love every up and coming age too. She is def one good little girl. :)

Well just wanted to let you know how we all are doing. Check out the link below of pics of Keegan from birth until now and also of Mia. Have a great weekend!
