Mia's 1st Memorial Day

Well today we just hung out and cleaned up after yesterday's Memorial Day BBQ we had at our house at 2pm. It was fun and Mia got to play with all of her baby friends. We cooked hotdogs and burgers on the grill and drank some yummy drinks. We had about 25 ppl over and the weather was perfect! Mia did well although she was very tired at 4pm and wouldn't nap. She eventually napped at 5:40 until 7:40! Then she went down at 9pm until this morning. :) She's a good sleeper!

Today Mia wouldn't nurse off me at her 3pm feeding or when I tried at 6:30. She bit me at 3pm and I told he NO and she cried loudly (she's actually biten me a few times already starting around May 24th (Thurs), then Fri, then today!!). I took her off and tried again a few minutes later and she bit me again. I said NO again and she got even worse. She wouldnt' go back on me and would cry each time I tried. I ended up giving her a 6oz bottle which she took at 3:15. Then I tried to feed her around 6:15ish b/c I hadn't fed her off me since 11am, but she still wouldn't go on. She didn't want to be fed then so I just let her play. I ended up feeling her head and she was very warm. I took her temp and it read about 101. I ended up taking her onsie off of her just to cool her off. She seemed fine except for the fever and not nursing. Mia then got a bath around 6:45 which she loved and she finally fed off me around 7pm. FINALLY! I was full but not engorged...my milk is def decreasing! She was content and fed for 10 mins and was happy. She went right down for me at 7:15 after giving her some baby tylenol to bring her temp down. I hope it goes down!

Mia Update

Well I think I covered most of what Mia has been doing in the posts below. What I haven't covered is that...

Mia is very energetic, vocal and just loves playtime. Mia loves to mock me when I squeal and loves playing with Daddy when he comes home from work. She loves going to the childcare at the gym and playing the toddler section of the room (yeah she does not like the baby section!). She loves crawling, loves taking steps (so far she can take 10 at a time!) and standing, eating star puffs and wagon wheels and loves to spit out food when she doesn't want anymore. She is one silly girl!

As far as listening to us, Mia does pretty well in that category. We'll tell her NO as soon as she goes near something that is dangerous (fire place) or crawls into the kitchen (tile floor...too hard) and sometimes she'll listen, other times she chooses to ignore us...especially when she crawls into the kitchen. So once she started to not listen, I decided to barricade our living room (on Monday) off so she can't crawl near the kitchen. It worked!

I am teaching Mia some spanish words along the English words and so far so good. She def understands when I ask her if she wants milk in spanish and english. She knows where the fan is when I ask her in both languages and it's just too cool that she knows what I am asking! As far as signs, she knows the milk and more sign and actually signed MORE yesterday when I showed her how to do it during lunch! Woo Hoo! I think she may have done it on Monday but I'm still not sure if she did it. She hasn't signed for milk in a while but def knows what it looks like! :)

Sleep wise, Mia is a great sleeper and I really can't complain about anything except that lately, she has been getting up about 30-40 mins after we put her down. Andddd she doesn't want more milk...just wants to cuddle with us!! :) I love it! We do give it some time before we go in but she usually is crying very loudly and we go in within 5 minutes. We pick her up and she immediately lays her head on our shoulder and sometimes falls asleep! She is then good to go for the rest of the night. The whole thing lasts about 5 mins before we put her back down. I actually like going in to get her b/c she just wants to be close to us one last time before she goes to sleep. Way too sweet!

Josh and I absolutely love being parents and watching our little girl grow! It is pretty amazing to say the least!

Everything else like walking/stepping and eating food is mentioned below. I do hope you enjoy reading my blogs as much as I enjoy writing them!

Love,

Cathy, Josh and Mobile Mia

Taking more steps!!!

Ok so today Mia took 10 steps by herself!! She started taking more steps as of a few days ago and just today surprised me by taking 10 steps before falling on her butt. It was so exciting to see! She really loves walking and I say in a few weeks she'll be walking as good as her friends Grace and Brenden!

During dinner Monday night, we decided to give Mia some bread to taste and she really liked it. We also gave her some gerber graduates apples which she loved along with peaches. Mia loves anything she can pick up with her fingers!

Mia started coughing this morning a lot and I am not sure why. She finished her antibiotics on Tuesday and seems to have rid of her nasty ear infection thankfully. Her nose was a bit runny tonight(clear juice), but she was her same old self eating, pooping and sleeping!

I bought Mia a new sippy cup today and she seems to like it along with a new toy from Once Upon a Child. She loves new toys that is for sure!

Standing and Stepping

Well Mia is well on her way to walking soon! Since about 9 days ago, Mia has been standing by herself from a kneeling position and when she lets go of things. She stands for quite some time by herself and has gotten better at it since last week. She isn't as wobbly as she used to be and is brave enough to even take a couple steps. I think the most steps she has taken were 2 or 3 at time then she'd fall on her butt and crawl. Mia loves watching her friends Grace and Brenden walk especially tonight when we all met up for dinner. Grace did very well walking by herself and was just too cute in that little outfit of hers! Brenden is the pro at walking and liked showing his girlfriends how well he can walk by himself. He's such a cutie pie with those curly locks too! Mia loved watching them do their thing and couldn't stop squealing, it was too funny. Soon Mia will be a pro at walking just like her friends!

Food wise, Mia loves to eat bananas and apples especially when I am eating them. Todat at the park, she decided to take a chunck of the banana and eat it! She didn't want the pieces I cut up for her....she wanted to knaw on the banana itself! She did well eating it and ate about 3/4 of a banana at dinner tonight. Mia also loves to eat wagon wheels whole (I used to break them up until a week ago), cheese (gave it to her for the first time at JOsh's soccer game last sat) and yo baby yogurt (gave it to her for the first time yesterday). She also loves her sippy cup filled with water and still eats star puffs too ( I used to break them up but quit doing that in the beginning of May). Mia is about 18 1/2 lbs and prob close to 30 in long! She's my little froggie and I love her mucho!

Mia's 1st Step, 1st time in pool

While I was at the gym Friday night May 12th, Josh told me that Mia stood up from a kneeling position and took her 1st step!! He even got it on video and showed it to me. It was pretty cool!! I'm glad that Josh got to see her do something for the first time!

Since Mia started standing by herself either from a kneeling position or while holding onto something, she is learning how to stand for a longer period of time. I'd say she can stand by herself for a good 15-20 seconds before she lands on her butt. She also takes steps (wobbly) when we hold her hands but isn't all that balanced yet. I just love watching her stand and figuring out what to do next, it's the cutest thing! I have a feeling Mia may be walking before her 1st bday! We'll see!

Since we've been having some crazy warm weather lately, I decided to buy a baby pool for Mia. She got to sit in it for the first time on Wednesday May 10th in our front yard. She got to wear a bikini I bought from Target and just loved being in the pool. She loved splashing and each time I took her out, she'd crawl right back in! She couldn't get enough of the water! :)

1st Mother's Day

My 1st Mother's Day was a great day! Josh, our good friend Greg who was visiting from LA, Mia and I started the morning off by going to church with another couple and their 2 little girls and ate brunch at the church parish center which was really nice. Before church, Josh surprised me with a cute pink photo frame with a pic of me and Mia along with a cute key chain pic of Mia. I loved it!! Anywho, the weather was absolutely gorgeous and I believe it may have hit 90 yesterday! I however forgot to take pics in the morning b/c I was rushing to get ready and then get Mia ready for 9 am mass. I did take pics later on that day of us, Greg and Mia and then of the yummy dinner Josh cooked me for Mother's Day along with the gift Josh got me (you can view them on the link to the right called Carroll Family Pictures). I had a great 1st Mother's Day with my little family and I hope all of you moms did also! :)

Mia's 1st Ear Infection, Friday May 12th

So I had to take Mia to urgent care Fri afternoon b/c she would not nurse, or even take a bottle around 1:30!! She was tugging on her ear a lot that day and was very cranky when she woke up from her nap. I tried to calm her down but it did not work. She eventually took the bottle sitting up and did calm down but I wanted to take her to get checked out b/c I knew something was wrong. Thankfully I did b/c her right ear was infected. She is now on anitbiotics and hopefully it will cure her ear infection! :)

Miss Mia stood today from a kneeling position!

So right around noon today, Mia stood up from a kneeling position!! I was like WOAH!!! She did it really quick and it lasted maybe a few seconds then she landed on her butt. Butttt she did it again a couple hours later and this time, I was like "OH MY GoSHHHHH", b/c she stood longer...by herself! She also likes to stand up and let go when she leans on things for support and today she did exactly that, then touched the floor for balance (instead of falling on her butt) and stood up. Then she touched the floor again and repeated that like 2x in a row. I hope this doesn't mean she'll be walking soon?!! ;)

Naps, bedtime

Well just as of a few days ago, Mia has been taking long naps! I think it's due to her being outside for a few hours on Sat then she was just trying to play catchup Sat night and Sunday. She napped for 3 hours and 15 mins Sat night and then napped a 1 1/2 hour nap, a 1:40 hour nap and a 2 hour nap! Talk about liking to nap! Today, she did well too with her naps and napped a 1:45 hour nap and a 2 1/2 hour nap. I just love it when she naps well. :)

As for her bedtime, lately Mia is going down for us at her regular time ( b/t 7-8pm) but she tends to start crying about 40 mins later? Not sure why but tonight it was due to a poopy diaper. The other nights (since April 29th), not sure what caused her to cry. We let her cry for about 15 mins unless she is screaming, but it hardly works. Then we go in, rock her and she usually lays her head on our shoulder and is content when we put her down in the crib. Then she's good to go for 10 hours. What a little stinker! :) I can't complain though, I just love it when she lays her head on my shoulder! It's the cutest thing ever!
