Hola,
It's been a while since I've updated you on Mia, so here it is:
Mia enjoyed her 2nd Christmas this year with both sets of grandparents and got a lot of cute gifts which she loves to play it. She got to take her first train ride at the Carrolls and got to sit with Santa whom she just stared at...it was cute. Mia got to visit her great grandparents along with many other family members whom she hasn't seen in a while. We all had a great Christmas with our families.
Daycare
Mia started daycare on Jan. 3 and is doing very well. In the beginning they said she would fuss and cry throughout the day and even for her naps. Her teachers said she'd only nap b/t 45 mins to 1 hour for the first week or so and just this past week, she has been napping w/o a problem for at least 1 1/2 hours! Nice! Mia also didn't cry at daycare this past Friday (after not being there for a week due to the holiday and her being sick) when I dropped her off. She didn't cry the entire time she was there and loved playing with her new friends. Her teachers said she is doing very well and that is she very smart. She must get that from her mommy! ;)
Ear Infections/Pink Eye
Her ear infections and pink eye are gone thankfully. I still think she got pink eye from daycare although they told me she could have gotten it anywhere (true, but I think she still got it there). What an ordeal that was! I hope it doesn't happen again anytime soon!
Words
Mia can say about 30 words or so and just loves to chat all the time. She def takes after her mommy! She also learned how to sign for "baby" and I wasn't sure what she was signing for until I looked it up last week. She can do another sign which I have to ask her teachers about b/c I have no idea what it is. :)
Eating
Mia eats pretty well although sometimes she just wants a nana instead of anything else. She'll eat well for at least one meal out of the three and sometimes (not all) it's all three. She has a lit'l pot belly to show for it too!
Sleeping
Since Mia started daycare, we've been putting her to bed a bit earlier than her normal 7pm bedtime...just so she can get her usual 12 hours of sleep. She now gets up in the mornings around 6:15-6:45 even on the weekends...ugh! :) Josh and I take turns getting up with her on the weekends though so we can both sleep in a bit. We try putting her down later on the weekends and giving her two naps, but she still seems to get up right around 6:30ish and will sometimes go back down for us. Oh well! :)
Josh and I are doing well and loving our baby girl. She is such a joy to be around and just has soooo much energy! She loves to play with her babies, doggie, telephones and loves to read her books...or try to at least. She'll come over to us with a book and will sit on our lap wanting us to read her the book. It's really too cute and we just love when she does that. Josh and I can't believe Mia is already 1 1/2 years old and wonder where the time went? Although it has gone by fast, we've enjoyed every minute with her and look forward to many more!

Doing better!
Well Mia's pink eye(s) has been gone since Thursday and her ear infections have not bothered her since Thursday. She is still on her ear meds until Thursday so hopefully this does the trick. Mia has her 18 month appt on Jan. 25 (thurs) where we can ask our doc about all of her ear infections.
Mia has said some new words lately...here they are:

Sit (Jan 20 at Julie's)
Says "Pss Pss" when I ask her to call the kitty (Jan 18 on our walk)

Pink Eye, Double Ear Infections
So just around dinner time last night, I noticed Mia's eyes becoming red and puffy w/ some discharge. She wasn't really touching them or rubbing them during the day, just towards the evening. I was going to take her to the docs tomorrow morning, but took her to urgent care around 6:30 tonight just to be safe. The doc there said she has pink eye and prob got it at daycare (very common I guess). I really didn't know she had it until the symptoms started showing when Josh got home from work tonight.
Mia also came out of Urgent Care with two ear infections (she's had about 7-8 now since last year), poor thing! I had no idea she had ear infections but knew something was up with her constant crankiness since last Thurday morning (she was fine Fri morning though). She was fine other than the first hour of waking up and ate/slept okay. Mia wasn't pulling on her ears or anything but was holding the side of her mouth the other day....I thought it was teeth. :(
It's sad to think that parents would send their kids to daycare w/ pink eye...if that is what happened. Maybe she got it from someone who was starting to have symptoms but whose parents weren't aware of it yet? Who knows. It's daycare and this doesn't surprise me.
Mia is doing better today and I am with her for the afternoon. Josh is going to stay home tomorrow and I'll be w/ her on Thursday. She may be good to go on Friday for daycare, but we'll just play it by ear. Poor thing though! We're going to ask our doc to see what she says about ear tubes since this is Mia's 7th ear infection for the year.

Mia is better thankfully
Mia is doing better since her lit'l crib accident this afternoon. She won't let us look at her teeth for very long but I think it's the area where the lip attaches to the gum at the top of her front teeth that was bleeding...at least I think that's what was bleeding. I felt her teeth for a few seconds and they weren't lose. I was able to brush her them for a bit and got what was stuck inb/t of her front teeth out, dried blood I think. I think they look fine and I'll check them again in the morning. If they the gum area is swollen or the teeth don't seem fine, then Josh is going to take her to the dentist. I'm hoping all is well though as it is now. :) I'm still wondering how it happened?
Crib accident
So I put Mia down for a nap around 3:10 this afternoon and about 30 mins later I heard her crying a ton for like maybe 10 seconds and then she was fine...at least I figured she was. Then after another 10 mins or so she decided not to go to sleep so as I went in to get her, I saw her with her teddy bear sitting in her crib with some dried blood that outline her mouth! I was like WTH? Then as soon as I wiped her mouth and she opened out, out came the blood and it was enough to make me worry even more. I thought she knocked her teeth out...I was freaking out. I gave her some water which helped stop the bleeding and called Josh who was at the dentist. I was able to look at her top teeth area where it seemed to have been bloody and told Josh on the phone that it's her top teeth...they were a bit bloody were the gum was and it seemed like there was a lit'l tint-ish mark where they meet in the middle. The hygienist came on the phone and said that it's prob not serious b/c baby's teeth roots haven't formed yet and said to let Mia calm down, then take a look to assess the teeth. So I'm going to wait a bit before I look again. She is playing now and is herself, I'm just afraid her front teeth may have been affected by her fall in the crib (I didn't even hear her fall on the monitor)...I hope not though. The dentist said to call his cell if the gum area is swollen and if her teeth have moved (which I don't believe they have). I'll keep you posted.
New signs
This past Friday, Mia did the cheerio sign at daycare which was cute to see. Then today, we saw an airplane in the sky when we came home from daycare and I said, "Do airplane" and she did it! Mia can also say cat as of last Friday too. I think that brings her vocabulary to 26 words and 6 signs.

Back in Cali (Jan. 2, 2007)

Josh, Mia and I are finally back in Cali as of late last night (our flight on Sunday got delayed 3 hours due to Chicago weather once again causing us to miss our Chicago layover. We chose to take a flight out on Monday and enjoyed News Years with my cousins instead of in the airport). We had such a great time with our family and friends and glad we got to spend Christmas with them all and New Year's too. Mia enjoyed seeing Santa although it took a few times for her to actually sit on his lap and loved unwrapping her gifts. She got sick of unwrapping gifts after a couple times and my family and I ended up opening them for her...it was fun! She got a lot of cute things which she loves including a toddler chair which we will be opening tonight. :)
Our flight back to Cali was a repeat of the flight to PA but worse (screaming wise). Mia did horrific for the first hour of the flight from PA to Atlanta and screamed to the top of her lungs for about an hour on a tiny jet. We did the "pass the baby back and forth" game while she was flailing every part of her body...it was not fun since Josh and I were very tired and just wanted to sleep. Finally an hour, Mia fell asleep on me probably b/c she was so drained and just gave up. Thank god she slept though even if it was only for an hour. That was the first leg...the better of the two legs.
Our second leg was horrible, much worse than the first. Mia would not, absolutely not, sleep on us and just screamed histerically off and on for almost the entire 4 1/2 hours. It was the longest flight ever. We tried everything from getting her snacks to giving her milk, but they only lasted for so long until she got antsy again. It was so bad that some lady came by us and said, "I'm a pediatrician, is there anything I can do to help?" Yeah that's how horrible Mia was. We just told her Mia was beyond tired and just doesn't do well on planes/sleeping on us. Mia liked her though so that helped to calm her down a bit. The lady gave her a plastic cup and a purple ribbon to play with but that got old quick. Then the lady said to walk her up and down for a bit which we haven't done just b/c of turbulence and Mia maybe wanting to get into people's things. So we tried that but it was too hard with ppl getting up all the time. So when I ended the walking up and down the aisle, Mia threw her tantrum once again. Josh and I were sooooo drained and frustrated and really were counting down the minutes until we landed, that's how bad it was. He and I really just wanted to sleep. That didn't happen until we got home at 11ish last night.
I told Josh last night that I do not want to fly anymore (with Mia) and that doing so drains us all. I would rather drive from Cali to PA then have to deal with what we go through each time we fly (although I prob wouldn't do it) with Mia. Plus, it's hard with all of our luggage, a stroller, 2 carry-ons, a huge convertible car seat and a toddler. I really just would like to be w/in driving distance to our family and friends and we hope that will happen soon.
The most important thing is is that we home safe and sound thank god! We had a rough flight with turbulence near GA and it realllly scared me seeing the plane shake so much. God was definitely listening to my prayers!

Christmas Day
Mia had a great time on Christmas and opening her gifts. She woke up christmas morning at the Carrolls and I brought her in front of the tree by her gifts. She just stared as we helped her open her gifts and was excited in opening the first two. Mia then got a bit bored with it and so we opened the rest of her cute presents. She just wanted to play and not open her gifts. :) She did the same at my parents house and opened a couple and then just wanted to play. My brother, sisters, sister's boyfriend, brother -in-law and Josh all helped to open all the other gifts my parents got Mia which were very cute! We all enjoyed it! I think next year Mia will be a bit more excited to open her Christmas gifts...or maybe not? :)
